Description

Gear Aid Revivex UV Protectant is sunscreen for your gear. It is a spray-on treatment for the synthetic materials that outdoor kit is made from: plastic, vinyl, rubber, neoprene, nylon, latex and fibreglass. A coat slows the cracking, chalky fading and stiffening that sun does to a kayak or a life jacket long before it needs a repair, lifts colour that has gone dull, and dries to a smooth matte finish that repels dust and dirt without feeling greasy. The bottle holds 118 ml.

What it fixes

Every summer on the water in Queensland takes something out of your gear. Vinyl, neoprene and latex hold oils called plasticisers that keep them supple; heat and UV drive those oils out, and the material goes brittle, cracks and loses its colour. A coat of UV Protectant slows that down and makes the next clean easier, because grime has less to grab onto.

  • Plastic and fibreglass kayaks, canoes and paddles
  • Life jackets, spray skirts and dry bags
  • Latex drysuit seals, wetsuits, dive fins and waders
  • Packrafts, inflatable boats, tubes and pool toys
  • Tents, nylon tarps and awnings
  • Outdoor furniture and vinyl covers

Keep it off cotton and glass, which it is not made for. It can darken leather, so leave leather boots and straps out of the spray.

How to use it

  1. Clean the surface and let it dry. Try a small hidden patch first to check the colour.
  2. Shake the bottle well.
  3. Spray an even coat over the surface.
  4. Buff it in with a clean, soft cloth, turning the cloth often, and let it air dry.

For boats and gear that live in the sun, recoat every 30 to 45 days of sun exposure. Even one coat helps. Latex drysuit seals get a coat after every dive and again before they go into storage. Gear kept in the shed between trips needs it far less often, and the treatment holds up through several washes.

Shelf life and storage

Store the bottle somewhere it cannot freeze, and keep it away from children. It irritates eyes, so rinse with fresh water if you catch some spray.

FAQ's

What can you use Gear Aid Revivex UV Protectant on?
Gear Aid Revivex UV Protectant goes on plastic, vinyl, rubber, neoprene, nylon, latex and fibreglass. That covers kayaks, canoes, life jackets, spray skirts, drysuit seals, wetsuits, inflatables, tents, tarps and outdoor furniture. Keep it off cotton and glass.

How often should you apply Revivex UV Protectant to a kayak?
Apply Revivex UV Protectant to a kayak every 30 to 45 days of sun exposure, and even a single coat helps. A kayak stored out of the sun between trips needs recoating far less often than one left on a rack in the yard.

Can Revivex UV Protectant be used on drysuit latex seals?
Yes. Revivex UV Protectant is safe on latex, and drysuit seals are one of the best uses for it. Give the seals a coat after every dive and again before the drysuit goes into long-term storage.

Does Revivex UV Protectant leave a greasy finish?
No. Revivex UV Protectant dries to a smooth matte finish with no greasy residue. Buff it in with a clean cloth after spraying, and the surface is left repelling dust and dirt rather than attracting them.

Will Revivex UV Protectant bring back faded colour?
Revivex UV Protectant restores colour on sun-dulled plastic, vinyl, neoprene, rubber, nylon and latex, which is why a chalky kayak hull looks brighter after one coat. Test a small hidden area first, because it can darken some materials, especially leather.

How do you apply Revivex UV Protectant?
Clean the surface of the gear and let it dry, shake the Revivex UV Protectant bottle well, spray an even coat and buff it in with a clean, soft cloth. Let it air dry before packing the gear away. Reapply as needed.

Can you use Revivex UV Protectant on a tent?
Yes. Revivex UV Protectant is safe on nylon and on fabrics coated with urethane or silicone, so it suits tent flies, tarps and awnings that spend long days in the sun. Try a small area first to check the colour.
