The Restrap Pannier Bag is a clean, roll-top pannier built in Restrap's Yorkshire workshop: a tough textured nylon bag that hooks onto the rack in a second and keeps a week of riding dry inside.

Who it's for

Touring riders, gravel and bikepacking riders running a rack, and commuters who want one bag that does the ride to work and the ride to Tasmania. It is the pannier for a lap of the Munda Biddi or the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, where the load is real and the weather turns. Each pannier is sold singly, so buy one for the commute or two for a balanced touring load.

Fitting it to your bike

The Restrap Pannier hangs from a Klickfix hook system that is fully adjustable, so you slide the hooks along to clear your rack's uprights and set your heel clearance. It fits rack rails from 10 to 16 mm in diameter, which covers slim steel touring racks through to chunkier alloy ones.

Both sizes mount on rear or front racks. We'd put the 13 L Small on a front or low-rider rack and the 22 L Large on the rear.

Capacity and what fits

  • Small - 13 L, 657 g. A change of clothes, a rain jacket, lunch and a laptop sleeve for the commute; or your cook kit and food on tour.
  • Large - 22 L, 831 g. Sleeping bag, mat and spare clothes in one bag, with the roll-top taking up the slack when it is half full.

Rolled three times, the Small measures 30 cm wide at the top, 25 cm at the base and 35 cm high, and is up to 16 cm deep. The Large, rolled three times, measures 40 cm wide at the top, 25 cm at the base and 43 cm high, and is up to 20 cm deep. Hold those numbers against your rack and your heel before you choose.

Weatherproofing

The Restrap Pannier is rated IP6K6. The textured nylon outer is tape sealed, and the roll-top closes down and locks with side-release buckles, so there is no zip for water to find. Roll it at least three times before you clip it.
