Description
The Lezyne Radar Drive Rear is a tail light and a rear-view radar in one 144 g unit. The radar watches the road behind you for vehicles closing in from up to 150 m away, and when it detects one, the light switches to its own alert flash pattern. Pair it with a phone, a bike computer or Lezyne's React Drive front light and you get the warning too.
Who it's for
Riders who spend real time on roads shared with cars and trucks: the training loop out through the Gold Coast hinterland, a long country road with no shoulder, the daily commute. Knowing a car is coming before you hear it gives you time to hold your line or tuck in. The radar adds awareness; it does not replace a glance over your shoulder.
Three ways to get alerts
- Radar Ally app on iOS or Android, which gives real-time audio and visual alerts.
- A compatible GPS bike computer, so vehicles appear on the screen you already watch.
- Lezyne React Drive front light, sold separately, which once paired gives audio and visual alerts on its own with no phone or computer running.
Used on its own, the Radar Drive still switches to its alert flash pattern when it detects a vehicle.
Brightness and runtime together
- Day Flash: 300 lumens for 18 hours
- High: 80 lumens for 4 hours
- Night Flash: 80 lumens for 9 hours
- Medium: 30 lumens for 9 hours
- Flash: 50 lumens for 20 hours
- Low: 10 lumens for 16 hours
- Car Alert: 150 lumens flashing or 120 lumens solid when a vehicle is detected
For daylight riding, Day Flash puts out the full 300 lumens for 18 hours, and Night Flash at 80 lumens holds for 9 hours after dark.
Beam shape
The lens and optics give 270 degrees of visibility, so you show up from the side as well as from straight behind. The radar itself looks back in a 35-degree beam. It picks up vehicles closing at 8 to 131 km/h faster than you, and needs a clear line of sight, so mount it where the tyre, mudguard or saddle bag cannot block it.
Charging and battery
Charge through the USB-C port; bring your own cable. Runtime tops out at 20 hours in Flash mode.
Mounting
A strap mount fits seatposts from 20 to 70 mm. The shorter strap is for round and smaller D-shaped posts, the longer one for aero and large D-shaped posts, and D-post and aero adapters come in the box so it mounts securely on most seatpost shapes.
Weather resistance
The co-molded body is IPX7 rated. Clean it with water and a soft cloth, keep sunscreen and insect repellent off the lens, and never point a pressure hose at it.
