XTM Plus Size Merino 230 Wool Unisex Thermal Pants bring a proper merino base layer to bigger sizes. These unisex thermal pants are 100% fine Australian merino, knitted at 230 gsm from 20.5 micron fibre, with a slim fit, a soft jacquard waistband, flatlock seams and a UPF 50+ rating. Black, in sizes 4-5XL and 6-7XL, at an average weight of 300 g.

Who it's for

Men and women in plus sizes who want a real merino base layer that actually fits. They are the warm layer under ski pants at Perisher, under walking trousers on a frosty morning in the Grampians, or on their own around the campfire once the sun drops. XTM rate them 4 of 4 for warmth and 3 of 4 for breathability on their own scale, and the merino regulates body temperature, which suits a cold chairlift and a hard walk uphill alike.

Fit and layering

A slim fit, shaped to sit close to the body, which is how a base layer should fit. Each size covers two steps, 4-5XL or 6-7XL, and the waistband is a soft jacquard band. Flatlock seams keep chafing down on long days.

Fabric and construction

The fabric is an interlock knit of 100% fine Australian merino at 230 gsm, from 20.5 micron fibre, so it feels soft rather than scratchy against the skin. Merino is naturally odour resistant, handy across several days of a ski trip. The pants carry a UPF 50+ rating, are Woolmark certified and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, and are a certified carbon neutral product.

Packability and weight

The average weight is 300 g, an easy addition to the pack for a dry pair at camp or in the hut.

Care

Machine wash cold on a gentle or wool cycle with a wool detergent, and skip the fabric softener and bleach. Do not wring them. Dry flat in the shade or tumble dry cool. If they need ironing, use the wool setting inside out and keep the iron off prints and accessories. Do not dry clean.
