The USWE Nordic 4L solves the thing that ends winter hydration: a frozen hose. The drink tube and bite valve live in an insulated pocket on the shoulder strap, warmed by your own body heat, so the first sip at the top of a cold climb still comes through. We stock it for anyone who has bitten down on a valve and got nothing but ice.
Who it's for
Cross-country skiers, alpine skiers, winter runners and cold-weather mountain bikers heading out for a race or a training session. It is built for racing and short adventures in the cold, and it works as a light running or riding pack for the rest of the year too.
The insulation has numbers behind it. Tested at -26 °C, the inside of the Thermo Cell pocket where the tube sits measured +19 °C. The bladder handles liquid up to +60 °C, so you can fill it warm before you leave: filled at about +35 °C, it stayed above +7.5 °C for at least four hours at -26 °C.
Capacity, and what actually fits
Four litres in total, and the included 2.0 L Elite bladder takes part of that. What is left carries the essentials light: food, your phone and the small extras the session needs, spread across five pockets. Whichever Thermo Cell pocket is not holding the tube can carry gels and bars, so fuel is in reach without stopping.
How it carries
A four-point No Dancing Monkey harness holds the pack against your back. The elastic chest straps expand as you breathe hard, and the shoulder and chest straps meet at a rotating quick-release buckle, so the pack stays still through a skating stride or a fast descent. The back panel is light mesh, and a compression sleeve holds the bladder tight inside.
Fitting it
The Nordic 4L is unisex and fits chest circumferences from 84 to 110 cm. The elastic in the harness lets you pull it close across that whole range without it restricting your breathing.
Access and organisation
The main compartment opens on a long diagonal zip for the bladder and your gear. The insulated hose pocket closes with a red zip, and because both shoulder straps carry Thermo Cell insulation, you choose which side the tube runs. There is an attachment point for a bike LED light, plus reflective points front and back for dark mornings.
Weight
300 g without the bladder, in a pack measuring 40 x 17 x 11 cm. Light enough that on race day you notice the water, not the pack.
