XTM Ladies Merino 230 Wool Zip Neck Long Sleeve Thermal Top is a women's thermal base layer in 100% fine Australian merino, knitted at 230 gsm from 20.5 micron fibre. It has a slim fit, a YKK zip neck, raglan sleeves, thumb gussets, flatlock seams and a UPF 50+ rating, at an average weight of 230 g. Black or Fog, in women's sizes 8 to 18.

Who it's for

Women who want a properly warm first layer for cold days: first lifts at Thredbo, a snowshoe up from Dinner Plain, or a frosty dawn start on the Overland Track. XTM rate it 4 of 4 for warmth and 3 of 4 for breathability on their own scale. The merino regulates body temperature, which is what you want going from a chilly chairlift to a hard skin up the hill.

The zip neck is what sets this top apart. Zip it right up to keep the cold off your throat on the lift, then drop it open to dump heat on the climb without peeling off a layer.

Fit and layering

A slim fit, shaped to sit close to the body, which is what a base layer needs to manage warmth and moisture. The back length is 62 cm on a size 10, worn here by a 175 cm model. Raglan sleeves add extra comfort, and thumb gussets keep the cuffs over your wrists when you pull gloves and a jacket on over the top.

Fabric and construction

The fabric is an interlock knit of 100% fine Australian merino at 230 gsm from 20.5 micron fibre. It is non-itch with a soft hand feel, and naturally odour resistant, which is handy on a multi-day trip. It carries a UPF 50+ rating, is Woolmark certified and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, and is a certified carbon neutral product.

Packability and weight

The average weight is 230 g, so a spare top for the hut or the tent costs very little room in the pack.
