The Kid Comfort is Deuter's child carrier with the Aircomfort Sensic Vario mesh back system - a ventilated mesh back that moves the load onto your hips while keeping the carrier sitting close, so a full day with a child on your back stays bearable for both of you.

Who it's for

The middle of the range and the one most families end up with. Longer walks, bigger days, and a carrier that comes with everything you need in the box rather than as a list of extras.

When a child is ready for it

Deuter rate this carrier for children from about nine months, and the milestone that matters is that your child can sit upright unaided. That is the test, not the birthday - some are ready at eight months and some at eleven.

Maximum child weight is 22 kg, plus 2 kg of luggage. In practice most families run out of a child's patience for sitting still long before they run out of carrier.

How it carries

The Aircomfort Sensic Vario mesh back transfers the load onto your hips and stays fully ventilated while doing it, which is the combination that usually costs you one or the other.

A child is a live load that shifts every time they lean, which is why the back system on a carrier matters more than on a normal pack. Get the weight onto your hips and let the shoulder straps stop it tipping - the same rule as any load, and twice as noticeable when the load has opinions.

Keeping the child comfortable

Carries the TUV GS safety seal, with side entry and an easily accessible harness system. Side entry sounds like a detail until you have tried to lower a sleeping toddler in from above.

Sun and weather

Back length decides your size, not your height. Measure from the bony bump at the base of your neck to the top of your hip bones, and always adjust the carrier with the child in it - an empty carrier tells you nothing about how it will sit.

Comes with the sun roof, the height-adjustable foot loops and the large washable chin pad already in the box - so it is ready to walk out of the shop with.

The large ergonomic chin pad supports a sleeping child's head even in the corners, which is where heads actually end up.

210D polyamide throughout - a tight weave that takes years of being dumped in car boots and dragged over gravel.
