Howe Mens Softshell Jacket

XTM Howe Mens Softshell Jacket is the one you grab off the hook on a cold morning. It is a men's softshell in bonded 4-way stretch fabric with a PFAS-free DWR finish and an 8,000 / 8,000 waterproof and breathability rating, a YKK Vision front zip, lower pockets, Velcro sleeve adjusters and a cord-lock hem. Black, in men's sizes S to 3XL.

Who it's for

Men who want one smart, hard-working outer layer for cool weather: a winter day walk in the Dandenongs, a frosty start at the snowfields car park, a chilly afternoon on the sidelines of junior footy. The 4-way stretch fabric moves with you when you swing a pack on or step up onto a rock. XTM rate it 2 of 4 for warmth and 2 of 4 for breathability on their own scale.

Waterproofing and breathability

The fabric carries an 8,000 waterproof and 8,000 breathable rating, and the PFAS-free DWR coating adds water repellency. XTM give it 1 of 4 on their waterproofing scale, so treat the Howe as a jacket for light showers and dry cold, with a dedicated rain shell in the pack when the forecast says it will pour all day.

Fit and layering

A regular fit, neither slim nor relaxed, with room for movement built in. The back length is 77.5 cm on a size L, worn here by a 184 cm model, so it sits around the hip. Layer a merino thermal or light fleece underneath on colder days, and use the Velcro sleeve straps and hem cord locks to adjust the fit at the wrists and hem.

Fabric and construction

The shell is a bonded softshell with 4-way stretch and a PFAS-free DWR coating. Logos are silicone printed. The Howe is a certified carbon neutral product.

Care

Fasten all the closures, then machine wash cold on its own on a permanent press or gentle cycle with a mild detergent, followed by an extra rinse. No fabric softener or bleach. Line dry, or tumble dry cool on a permanent press cycle. Do not iron or dry clean it.
