The Orca Killa Mask Swimming Goggles are a light swim mask for open water and triathlon. Large polycarbonate lenses give you a wider view than classic goggles, a soft silicone seal sits across the nose and face without digging in around the eyes, and a long-lasting anti-fog coating keeps the smoke-tinted lenses clear from the start to the swim exit.
Fit and seal
Instead of two small cups pressed into the eye sockets, the Killa Mask seals on a wider silicone skirt that rests on the face and the bridge of the nose. The frame is shaped in three dimensions and adjusts to fit your face, spreading the pressure so you come out of a long swim without deep goggle rings. A clip on the silicone strap lets you tighten or loosen it in seconds, standing on the beach with cold fingers.
The mask is designed to sit firmly on the nose and face and protect the eye area in the push and shove of a triathlon swim start, where a knock from an elbow is part of the first few hundred metres.
Lens and vision
The lenses are tough polycarbonate, clear-sighted and resistant to impact, and bigger than a standard goggle's, so you see more of the water around you: the swimmer beside you, the next buoy when you sight, the shoreline on the way back in. The smoke tint takes the edge off bright sun and glare, which suits a summer ocean swim or an outdoor pool at midday.
Fogging
A long-lasting anti-fog coating stops the lenses steaming up as you warm up in the water. Keep your fingers off the inside of the lenses and never wipe them with a towel, and the coating keeps doing its job for season after season.
Looking after it
Rinse the mask in fresh water after every swim, salt or chlorine, and let it dry in the shade before it goes in your bag. Store it in a case or a soft pouch, away from keys and sand, so the lenses stay unscratched and the silicone seal keeps its shape.
