The LifeStraw Go 2.0 is a BPA-free water bottle with the filter built into the straw, so you fill from a tap, a bubbler or a stream and drink through it. Made for travel and everyday carry where you would rather not think about where the water came from.

Who it's for

Travel and everyday use rather than the backcountry specifically. Airport bathroom taps, a tap in Mexico, a service station on a road trip, municipal water that is technically fine and tastes like a swimming pool - that is the job.

It also quietly solves the plastic-bottle problem, because the reason people buy bottled water on the road is not safety, it is taste. This fixes both.

What it removes, and what it does not

The membrane microfilter is the safety half: bacteria including E. coli and Salmonella, parasites including Giardia and Cryptosporidium, plus microplastics, sand, dirt and cloudiness. The carbon filter is the palatability half, cutting chlorine, odours and organic chemical matter - which is what turns technically-safe tap water into water you will actually drink.

Viruses are the one thing a membrane microfilter does not catch, at any brand. For Australian tap water and backcountry sources that is exactly the right risk profile, because what is actually in our water is bacteria and protozoa. Somewhere with sewage-contaminated supply, a purifier is the tool.

Flow rate and capacity

The two stages wear at very different rates, and this is the bit owners get wrong. The membrane lasts up to 4,000 litres - about five years of daily use, and the equivalent of 8,000 single-use bottles. The carbon lasts about 100 litres, roughly two months. One is close to a lifetime part; the other is a consumable.

Maintenance

Change the carbon on schedule rather than waiting for the water to taste bad - taste fades gradually enough that you will not notice, only that you stopped enjoying the bottle. BPA-free and made from 50% post-consumer recycled plastic.

Freezing and storage

Never let a wet cartridge freeze. Ice splits the hollow fibres and the damage is invisible - the filter looks perfect and no longer filters. Camping below zero, keep it in your sleeping bag.

How do I know when it is time to replace my LifeStraw Go Series filters?
The Go Series utilizes a two-stage filtration system consisting of a microfilter membrane and an activated carbon filter.
• The membrane microfilter lasts up to 1,000 gallons (4,000 L) and will stop allowing water to flow through once it’s reached the end of its lifetime. Replacements can be found HERE.
• The activated carbon filter lasts up to 26 gallons (100 L) of water with proper use and maintenance. We recommend replacing this when you notice a change in smell or taste of your water or every 60 or so days with regular use. Replacements can be found HERE.

Is the LifeStraw Go Series water filter bottle dishwasher safe?
We recommended washing your LifeStraw Go Series bottle by hand but if needed, the Go Series bottles can be placed in the dishwasher for cleaning, but only after the filters are removed and you should avoid the heated dry setting. It is recommended to remove the cover and mouthpiece from the main cap and wash them separately.Please see our video guide for proper procedures on safely and effectively washing your bottle.
