Description
The Gerber Exo-Mod Fixed Blade Saw is a compact full-tang pack saw, 19.2 cm overall, with crosscut teeth and a skeletonised T-grip. Its sheath snaps together with other Exo-Mod sheaths, so hunters and campers can carry the saw alone or as part of a knife kit on a pack strap or belt. Choose black or blaze orange.
What it is
A small fixed-blade hand saw with a sheath, part of Gerber's modular Exo-Mod range of hunting and camp blades.
Who it's for
Hunters, bushwalkers and campers who want a saw small enough to forget about until it is needed. Clear a dead branch out of a track, trim a shooting lane on a property hunt, or cut a straight stick to size for a tarp pole. The Exo-Mod system suits people who build their kit to the trip: carry the saw on its own for a day walk, or clip it to an Exo-Mod knife sheath for a weekend after deer in the high country.
It is a pack saw for small timber. For splitting firewood or felling, take an axe or a folding saw with a longer blade.
Key details
- Length: 19.2 cm overall.
- Teeth: crosscut saw teeth for cutting across the grain of wood.
- Full tang: the steel runs right through the handle, which is what makes a fixed blade strong.
- Grip: skeletonised, ergonomic T-handle that keeps the weight down and fills the hand for pulling strokes.
- Sheath: slim moulded sheath with belt slots that snaps onto other Exo-Mod sheaths, worn on a pack strap or on the hip.
- Colours: black, or blaze orange that is easy to spot if you set it down in the leaf litter.
- Warranty: Gerber's 25 year limited warranty in Australia.
Looking after it
Brush sap and sawdust out of the teeth after each use, dry the blade before it goes back in the sheath, and wipe on a light coat of oil if it has been wet. Check local rules before cutting any vegetation: most national parks do not allow it.
