Description

The Deuter Trans Alpine 32 EL is a multi-day bike pack sized for tall riders, who usually end up with a pack riding halfway up their back. It carries tools, food, layers and a change of clothes for hut-to-hut rides, and sits low and steady on technical descents.

Who it's for

Tall mountain bikers and bike tourers, roughly 185-205 cm, riding multi-day trips: the Tasmanian Trail, the Munda Biddi, or an alpine traverse overseas. Deuter rate it five out of five for mountain biking and for tours.

Capacity, and what actually fits

32 litres in a 58 x 28 x 24 cm pack. A zip-out divider splits the main compartment so a sleeping bag or spare clothes stay separate from food and layers, and there is a separate wet laundry compartment. Tools live in the organiser, the pump in its own zipped side pocket, and a 3 L bladder fits in the hydration sleeve.

How it carries

Adaptable aluminium stays give the pack structure, and the extra-long Airstripes back sits on two padded strips with an air channel between them, so most of your back stays ventilated. Padded shoulder straps, stabiliser straps, mesh hip fins and a sternum strap with a one-handed buckle hold it in place on rough trail.

Fitting it

EL is Deuter's extra-long fit: back lengths of 48-58 cm and riders around 185-205 cm tall. If you are under about 185 cm, the standard Trans Alpine 30 will sit better. Set the hip fins on your hips, then tighten the shoulder and stabiliser straps in riding position, not standing upright.

  • Zipped round arch opening; zip-out divider in the main compartment
  • Tool organiser and zipped side pump pocket

Looking after it
