The Deuter Telatie 26 is an easy-going day pack that does not make you dig. Load it from the top like a classic hiking pack, or swing the J-zip open on the front and grab your lunch, jacket or first aid kit straight from the middle.

Who it's for

Day walkers, and people just getting into hiking who want one pack that does it all. Deuter rate it five out of five for hiking and four for travel. It suits a morning on the Glass House Mountains tracks, a lap of the Blue Mountains' Grand Canyon, or a city break where it doubles as your day bag. The recommended load is 6-10 kg.

Capacity, and what actually fits

26 litres, 58 x 27 x 23 cm. That holds a 3 L bladder, a rain jacket and a warm layer, lunch, a first aid kit and a camera. Two side pockets take bottles, the lid pocket holds snacks and sunscreen, and a wet compartment inside keeps a damp layer away from the rest.

How it carries

The Airstripes back puts padding on two strips with a ventilation channel between them and 3D mesh on top, so air reaches most of your back. Padded shoulder straps, ventilated hip fins on an adjustable waist belt, stabiliser straps and a sternum strap you can move for height and width keep it settled. Side compression straps pull the load in close when the pack is half full.

Fitting it

One size, made for back lengths of 44-54 cm, which Deuter match to walkers around 170-195 cm tall. Snug the waist belt first, then the shoulder and stabiliser straps.

Access and organisation

The main compartment closes with a drawcord under a lid, and a J-shaped zip on the front gives a second way in. The lid carries an outside pocket, there is a hip fin pocket for your phone, a key clip inside and an ice axe and pole attachment on one side.

Weight

720 g for 26 litres with ventilated back padding, hip fins and two ways in. A light, simple pack to grab for any day out.

Looking after it

The body is 210D recycled polyamide finished without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified.
