Description

The Deuter Speed Lite Pro 17 SL is a women's-fit fast-hiking pack in recycled 120D ripstop that wears like a vest and weighs 610 g. Everything you reach for on the move lives on the straps, so you never stop to take it off.

Who it's for

Women who walk fast and light: summit dashes and long trail days. Deuter rate it five out of five for hiking. It suits a sunrise run up Mount Barney's South East Ridge, a big day on the Larapinta's Section 1, or Cradle Mountain's summit loop with time to spare.

Capacity, and what actually fits

17 litres holds a rain shell, a warm layer, food for the day, a first aid kit and a head torch. Two soft flasks ride in the shoulder strap pouches, with more flask pouches outside the pack. The pack measures 48 x 26 x 18 cm, and Deuter recommend a 6-10 kg load.

How it carries

The LiteAir back pairs a lightweight skeleton frame structure with a flat, reinforced back panel that hugs your body, so the pack moves with you instead of bouncing. Wide, perforated vest-style shoulder straps, supple hip fins, stabiliser straps and a lightly elasticated 2-way sternum strap with a one-handed buckle spread the load between hips and shoulders.

Fitting it

SL is Deuter's women's fit: a shorter back system shaped to a woman's frame. The Speed Lite Pro 17 SL suits back lengths of 38-48 cm and body heights of 158-178 cm.

Access and organisation

A zip runs around the main opening so it opens wide. On the harness, a zipped shoulder strap pocket takes your phone, the hip fin pocket holds bars, and quick-release bungee holders keep folded poles on the straps. On the pack, a zipped top pocket, a mesh front pocket and a mesh side pocket hold the rest.

  • Zip-around main opening
  • Soft flask pouches on the shoulder straps and outside the pack
  • Zipped shoulder strap pocket and zipped hip fin pocket
  • Quick-release pole holders on the shoulder straps; ice axe and pole attachment
  • Zipped top pocket, mesh front pocket, mesh side pocket, wet compartment
  • Side compression straps; key clip; attachment loops

Weight

610 g for a framed, vest-style 17 litre pack. That is the point of the Speed Lite Pro: carry less, move more.

Looking after it

The recycled 120D ripstop is bluepass and Green Button certified, finished without intentionally added PFAS.
