Futura Pro 34 SL

The Deuter Futura Pro 34 SL is the women's Futura you can dial in to your own back. Five click-in back length settings, shoulder straps anchored straight to the frame, and a full-length mesh back that keeps air moving: a pack for long days that carries like it was fitted in the shop.

Who it's for

Women walking long days and overnighters who want a precise fit. Deuter rate it five out of five for hiking and three for trekking, and the recommended load is 6-10 kg.

Capacity, and what actually fits

34 litres takes a 3 L hydration bladder, a down jacket, a rain shell, food for a long day, a first aid kit and a compact sleeping bag in the separate bottom compartment, split off by a zip-out divider. The pack measures 63 x 32 x 24 cm, and side compression straps keep a part-load tidy.

How it carries

A flexi spring steel frame holds the soft mesh back away from you along its full length, down into the lumbar area, so air can move and the pack wraps your shape. The shoulder straps anchor straight to the frame for direct load transfer, and the stabiliser straps have two positions to suit your build. Padded hip fins with Pull-Forward adjustment carry the weight, and a single continuous piece of padding runs from hip fins to shoulder straps so nothing rubs.

Fitting it

SL is Deuter's women's fit. VariClick adjusts the back length in five steps from the centre of the pack, and clicks audibly into each one: S 36-40 cm, S/M 38.5-42.5 cm, M 41-45 cm, M/L 43.5-47.5 cm and L 46-50 cm. Deuter match it to walkers about 158-178 cm tall.

Access and organisation

The main compartment loads from the top under a drawcord and lid, with pockets on top of the lid and inside it. A large stretch side pocket opens two ways, so you can pull a bottle out without taking the pack off, and quick-release holders on the shoulder straps hold your poles when you need your hands for a scramble. A mesh front pocket, two hip fin pockets and an inside wet compartment round it out.

• Top-loading main compartment with drawcord and lid
• Separate bottom compartment with zip-out divider
• Dual-access stretch side pocket; mesh front pocket; two hip fin pockets
• Quick-release pole holders on the shoulder straps
• Hydration compatible up to 3 L; rain cover included
• Ice axe and pole attachment, glasses stow, key clip, SOS label
• Mesh helmet holder sold separately

Weight

1530 g empty. The VariClick system, frame-anchored straps and full-length mesh add some grams over the standard Futura 30 SL at 1330 g, and they buy a fit you can tune to your exact back length.

Looking after it

The fabric is recycled 210D polyamide with an X-Grid structure and a DWR finish made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
