Description
The Deuter Duffel 70 is a light, soft travel duffel made from recycled fabrics, with straps that turn it into a backpack when the walk from the bus stop to the hostel is longer than you planned. It swallows a trip's worth of gear through a wide arched zip, then folds into its own sack when you get home.
Who it's for
Travellers, gear haulers and anyone heading somewhere with more kit than a backpack holds. Pack it for a ski week at Thredbo, a road trip to Cape York, or a flight to a hiking holiday with your pack and boots inside. Deuter rate it five out of five for travel.
Capacity and what fits
At 68 x 36 x 28 cm it takes a week of clothes, a sleeping bag and a pair of shoes, or a full set of ski layers with room for a helmet. The recommended load is 8-12 kg, which keeps it comfortable when you swing it onto your back.
Carrying it
Padded handles take the weight for short hauls to the car. For longer stretches, the adjustable carrying straps go over your shoulders backpack-style, which frees your hands for a coffee and a boarding pass.
Organisation inside
The main compartment opens with a round arched zip, so you can see the whole bag at once and pack it quickly. A zipped side pocket keeps shoes or wet gear apart from your clothes, an inner mesh pocket holds chargers and toiletries, and a key clip stops your house keys going missing. The included storage sack doubles as a packing cell.
- Round arched main zip with a fixed point for a zip lock
- Zipped side pocket
- Inner mesh pocket and key clip
- Padded handles and adjustable backpack straps

Durability and weight
730 g empty. The body combines 600D recycled polyester with 420D recycled polyamide, finished with a DWR made without intentionally added PFAS, and the bag is bluepass and Green Button certified. The zip has a fixed anchor point, so a small padlock can lock it shut.
Looking after it
Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
