Bike I 20

The Deuter Bike I 20 is a day-ride pack that does not stop when the bike does. Ride the rail trail to a waterhole, lock up, clip your helmet into the mesh holder and walk on with your poles, all with one pack doing both jobs.

Who it's for

Riders who mix cycling with a walk: bike touring days, gravel loops with a lookout at the end, or a ride along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail with a swim stop. Deuter rate it five out of five for touring and three for mountain biking, and the recommended 2-5 kg load is water, a tool kit, a spare tube, food and a layer.

Capacity, and what actually fits

20 litres takes a 3 L bladder, a rain jacket, lunch, a first aid kit and the tools in their own organiser, with the cell phone pocket keeping your phone separate. The pack measures 49 x 25 x 19 cm, and a removable sitting mat gives you somewhere dry to sit at the lunch stop.

How it carries

The Airstripes back runs two padded strips with a ventilation channel between them and breathable 3D mesh, so air flows across 80% of your back as you ride. Breathable hip fins and a 2-way adjustable sternum strap lock the pack in place, cutting the wobble on corrugated dirt roads and rough single track. Padded shoulder straps keep the load comfortable on longer days.

Fitting it

The Bike I 20 comes in one size for back lengths of 44-54 cm, which Deuter match to riders around 170-195 cm tall. On the bike, set the sternum strap high enough that it does not press when you lean forward, and snug the hip fins so the pack sits still when you stand on the pedals.

Access and organisation

The main compartment opens on a zip that runs right around, and an inner zipped compartment and key clip keep small things together. The zipped front pocket holds the tool organiser for tyre levers, a multi-tool and a mini pump. Outside, a pump attachment, pole attachment and the detachable mesh helmet holder carry the awkward items, and reflective details help on the road home at dusk.

Weight

720 g for 20 litres with a ventilated back, hip fins, a rain cover and a helmet holder. That is light enough to forget on a long day in the saddle and still structured enough to carry a full day's water.

Looking after it

The body is 210D recycled polyamide with a DWR finish made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
