PROTECTION TESTING
CushCore built a drop test tower to measure impact force. The test simulates a rock impact at speed. An accelerometer mounted on the carriage measures the deceleration rate when it impacts the tire (“G-force”). A violent impact delivers a sharp jolt to the rider and increases the danger of rim damage or a flat tire. CushCore reduced impact force by 50% compared to standard tubeless tire.

SUSPENSION PERFORMANCE TESTING
Motion Instruments, a data acquisition testing specialist, used sensors to measure suspension travel usage with and without CushCore. More about testing methodology.

The table shows the total suspension travel used during the test.  Adding up all the compression strokes during 4-hours of testing, test bikes with CushCore used 15-16% less suspension travel. 

This shows that CushCore absorbed some of the bump forces before they affected the rest of the bike.

CORNERING PERFORMANCE TESTS
In addition to Motion Instruments’ testing, CushCore conducted tests to evaluate cornering performance using an MTS Roehrig EMA-2K suspension dyno.

Lateral Stiffness Test: The tire sidewalls are compressed equally from both sides. This measures sidewall stiffness. CushCore increased sidewall stiffness by 35%.

Tire Roll Test: The rim is fixed in position while the actuator presses against one side of the tire and deflects it horizontally (see photo right). This mimics the forces exerted on the tire in aggressive cornering. CushCore reduced tire roll by 25%.

VIBRATION TESTING
Motion Instruments, mounted accelerometers (“G-force” sensors) to two test bikes and ran a 15 mile course with CushCore and without CushCore. The accelerometer is mounted to the head tube, which can accurately measure bump forces as they are experienced by the rider. 

The test recorded cumulative G-forces (“shock & vibration”) — all the bumps added together during 4 hours of riding. Riders with CushCore experienced 11-12% reduction in shock and vibration. The riders felt a smoother ride and less fatigue.

ROLLING RESISTANCE TESTING
Wheel Energy, an independent tire and wheel testing contractor based in Finland, performed rolling resistance tests for CushCore. They apply a fixed load to simulate the rider’s weight and roll the wheel on a drum. The test compares a Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.35 tubeless tire with and without CushCore at 25 psi. 

CushCore reduced rolling resistance by 3.2% compared to standard tubeless tires.

FAQ's

Will I notice a difference after installing CushCore?
Absolutely. The feeling of riding with CushCore is not a subtle difference from standard tubeless tires. Even novice ers notice the differences right away. It is a confidence- inspiring riding experience. Need evidence? Check out the PROVEN BENEFITS.

I use 2.6” tires. Should I run the standard or plus-sized CushCore?

Both Standard and Plus-sized inserts will fit a 2.6″ tire. We recommend selecting the insert that is most appropriate for your rim’s inner width. Use standard for an inner width of 33mm or less. Use Plus for 34mm or wider.

Will CushCore fit my rims and tires?
See fitment specifications HERE. Within the size recommendations, CushCore works well with every rim and tire on the market. *Asymmetric Rims – CushCore will fit asymmetric rims and we recommend starting with the bead furthest from the rim channel for installation. This leaves the final bead right next to the rim channel and will make it easier to drop the bead in the rim channel to finish off your install.

Is CushCore difficult to install?
Installing CushCore is not difficult, but it is different. We highly recommend watching the Installation Video before you begin. Installation by a first-time user should require no more than 30 minutes. Installation by an experienced user takes 5-10 minutes. If you need help, contact us for assistance.

Is CushCore compatible with tubless tire sealant?
Yes. CushCore is compatible with all sealants.

What if I get a flat?
It is still possible to get a flat with CushCore – for example, in the case of a tire sidewall slice. While CushCore is not intended to be a run-flat tire, it is possible to “limp home” short distances with reduced risk of rim damage. Trailside repair is also possible using the same approach riders use with standard tubeless. Tire plugs are a great option.

What tires should I use with CushCore?
Tire choice is a personal preference, and the best choice for you depends on several variables. In general, CushCore makes it possible to run lighter, faster-rolling tires without sacrificing lateral stability, impact absorption capacity, or flat resistance. For that reason we suggest trying a tire in a lighter weight class than you normally use – for example, a 750 gram tire instead of an 950 gram tire. If you are already using a lightweight tire, try reducing tire pressure as described below.

What tire pressure should I use with CushCore?
Many riders prefer to run 1-5 psi less tire pressure with CushCore. The ideal pressure depends largely on your starting point – your normal air pressure with standard tubeless. Riders who already run low pressures (for example, 20 front and 23 rear) have less room to adjust than riders who normally run 30 or 35 psi. Excessively low tire pressures increase the risk of flats or wheel damage. We encourage you to experiment and find your own preferred setting. Start at your normal tire pressure, then drop in 1 psi increments until you find the sweet spot for your riding conditions.

How long will it last?
CushCore inserts are extremely durable. Our foam is engineered to withstand repeated pounding without degradation, and it is not affected by tire sealant. Typically a set lasts riders a couple years, though the ultimate service life depends on your riding frequency, tire pressure, terrain, and other factors.
