Center-Drive Multi-Tool

The Gerber Center-Drive is a full-size multi-tool built around a magnetic bit driver that opens in line with the handle, like a real screwdriver. It adds one-thumb sliding spring-loaded pliers, carbide wire cutters, an 8.3 cm 420HC plain edge blade and a serrated blade. It weighs 269.3 g, closes to 11.9 cm and is made in the USA.

What it actually does

The Center-Drive's driver swings out along the centre line of the tool and lines up with the handle, just like a real screwdriver. The whole handle turns behind the bit, so you can put real torque on a stubborn screw, a bike bolt or the battery cover on a camp light.

Size, weight and carrying

Closed, the Center-Drive is 11.9 cm long; open, it is 16.8 cm. At 269.3 g it is a working tool rather than a keyring gadget, so it rides in the included fabric sheath or in the lid of a pack, ready for the next trip to the High Country.

Build quality

The plain edge blade is 420HC steel, and the wire cutters are carbide and rotatable. The tool itself is made in the USA, with the sheath made in China, and it is fitted with a tool lock. Gerber Australia backs the Center-Drive with a 25-year limited warranty.
