Bikepacking Saddle Bag + Dry Bag

The Restrap Bikepacking Saddle Bag + Dry Bag is a rackless seat pack in two parts: a hard-shell holster that stays strapped to your bike, and a roll-top dry bag rated IP6K6 that lifts out and comes into the tent with you. Choose 14 L at 535 g or 18 L at 645 g, both hand made in Restrap's Yorkshire workshop.

Who it's for

Bikepackers who want their sleeping kit dry and their bike free of racks. The 14 L covers a summer overnighter on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail; the 18 L takes the bulkier sleeping bag and warm layers you carry into the Victorian high country. It suits touring and commuting too, because the dry bag lifts out in seconds and the holster stays put.

Fitting it to your bike

The holster wraps the seatpost with a wide strap and hangs from the saddle rails on buckled webbing, with no mounts, screws or tools. Measure from your saddle rails straight down to the rear tyre:

• 14 L - allow 240 mm between saddle rails and tyre
• 18 L - allow 260 mm between saddle rails and tyre

That gap depends on your saddle height and wheel size, so smaller frames and 29er wheels are the ones to measure first. We recommend protective tape on the seatpost where the strap sits, to keep grit from marking the finish.

Capacity and what fits

• 14 L - 450 mm long when packed full. A sleeping bag or quilt, a sleeping mat and a change of clothes.
• 18 L - 580 mm long when packed full. Winter sleeping bag, mat, down jacket and camp clothes.

Length depends on how much you pack: roll the dry bag down further for a smaller load and the whole bag shortens. We'd keep soft, light, bulky gear here and put tools and water in the frame.

Weatherproofing

The dry bag is rated IP6K6 and closes with a roll top and buckle, so your sleeping bag arrives dry after a day of rain and rear-wheel spray. The holster is textured nylon with nylon webbing, and wipes clean with a sponge and soapy water.

Stability when loaded

The holster is a rigid hard shell, which keeps the load from swaying when you climb out of the saddle and makes the dry bag easy to slide in. A Fidlock magnetic buckle snaps the load shut and adjusts with gloves on. Reflective paracord, in black or orange, laces the holster through reinforced eyelets and catches headlights from behind.
