Alpine Heavy-Weight Merino Wool-Blend Hiking Sock
Description
Description
XTM Performance Alpine is a heavyweight merino wool-blend hiking sock: 55% merino, 25% nylon, 15% polyester and 5% elastane, with terry cushioning throughout, an X compression zone, a comfort band and a seamless toe. It has a 26 cm leg, an average product weight of 101 g, and comes in three adult unisex sizes, in black or spruce green.
Who it's for
Walkers heading into the cold. The Alpine is the sock for a winter crossing of the Overland Track, a frosty week on the Australian Alps Walking Track, snowshoeing at Mt Buller or a multi-day trip in stiff leather boots where your feet need padding from heel to toe.
It is a great camp sock too. Pull on a dry pair when the boots come off and your feet stay warm right through a cold night in the tent.
Fit and layering
Regular fit, shaped to follow the foot with ease for movement. The X compression zone holds the sock in place around the arch and ankle so it does not slide down into your boot on a long climb, and the comfort band keeps it up without digging in.
- Three adult unisex sizes: A2-8, A6-10 and A11-14
- 26 cm leg length, tall enough to sit above the collar of a hiking boot
- Seamless toe, so nothing rubs on the descent
- Terry cushioning throughout the sock
Fabric and construction
The yarn is 55% merino for warmth and comfort next to skin, with nylon and polyester for hard-wearing strength and elastane for stretch and recovery. Terry loops run right through the sock rather than just underfoot, which is what gives a heavyweight sock its warmth and its cushion under a loaded pack. The Alpine is a certified carbon neutral product.
Packability and weight
The average product weight is 101 g. It is the warmer, thicker partner to XTM's Venture lightweight sock, and on a long trip we'd pack a pair of each: Venture for the warm days, Alpine for the cold nights and the frosty starts.
Care
Turn the socks inside out and machine wash cold on a gentle or wool cycle with wool detergent. No fabric softener or bleach. Line dry or tumble dry on cool, and never iron them.
