Description

The Mammut 9.8 Crag Classic Rope Duodess is the all-rounder 9.8 mm Crag Classic with one upgrade you use on every route: a Duodess centre mark that Mammut describes as durable and always visible. It comes in Vibrant Orange-White, and we stock it in 60, 70 and 80 m.

Who it's for

Climbers who split their time between the gym, sport crags and trad. Mammut gives it six out of six for sport climbing and builds the 9.8 Crag Classic, a rope based on its Eternity, for traditional routes as well. As an untreated Classic rope it is made for indoor walls and rock in good weather: think Brisbane's Kangaroo Point cliffs after work, or a long weekend in the Grampians.

Diameter and what it suits

At 9.8 mm the Crag Classic Duodess is certified as a single rope, so one strand covers lead and top-rope. Mammut describes it as the best combination of diameter, weight and reliable durability.

Handling and impact force

  • Impact force: 8.5 kN
  • Stretch on first fall: 32%
  • Static elongation: 7%
  • Sheath proportion: 40%

Impact force is the peak force recorded in the standard UIAA drop test; a lower figure means a softer catch; static elongation is the stretch you feel under body weight as you are lowered.

The Duodess middle

Mammut describes the Duodess centre mark as durable, always visible and abrasion-resistant, so the halfway point is easy to find when you flake the rope out. It also comes packed tangle-free, ready to climb without uncoiling first.

Dry treatment

None. The 9.8 Crag Classic Duodess is an untreated, PFC-free Classic rope, made for the gym and for rock climbing in good weather.

Fall rating

The 9.8 Crag Classic Rope Duodess holds 8 UIAA falls with an 80 kg mass as a single rope, and conforms to EN 892:2012 + A3:2023.

Every length weighs 61 g per metre. Choose 60, 70 or 80 m.
