Frequently Asked Questions

Three flavours carry 80 mg of caffeine per 45 g sachet: Cappuccino, Cola Vanilla and Green Plum. Wild Berry, Berry Banana, Cola, Lemon Lime and Mango Passion are caffeine-free. Every flavour has the same 29.8 g of carbohydrate and 117 calories, so you can mix caffeinated and plain gels through a race.

Not at the moment. Our KODA range is the Energy Gel, in eight flavours, and the sugar-free Electrolyte Sticks. For solid food on a long day out, see the bars from other brands in our Energy Bars collection, and use KODA gels for quick carbohydrate when you are working hard.

KODA suggest one or two sticks in 600 ml of water, to suit your taste and your sodium needs. Each stick has 430 mg of sodium and no sugar, so if you sweat a lot of salt you can use two without adding sugar. Take them before, during and after activity.

KODA Energy Gel

The KODA Energy Gel is semi-fluid, and KODA's pitch is energy to volume: 117 calories in 33 ml. Every flavour has the same base per 45 g sachet: 495 kJ, 29.8 g of carbohydrate (2.9 g of it sugars), 36 mg of sodium and 18 mg of potassium.

• Caffeinated (80 mg): Cappuccino, Cola Vanilla, Green Plum.

• Caffeine-free: Wild Berry, Berry Banana, Cola, Lemon Lime, Mango Passion.

• Sizes: single sachets, 6 packs, boxes of 24, or a Mixed Box.

Take one before the start, then at intervals through the effort. Try new flavours in training, not on race day.

KODA Electrolyte Sticks

The KODA Electrolyte Sticks are for replacing what you sweat out, not for fuel. Each stick has 430 mg of sodium, 36 mg of potassium, 20 mg of magnesium, 12.5 mg of calcium and 37.5 mg of vitamin C, with no sugar and 7 calories. Because there is no sugar, a salty sweater can put two sticks in a 600 ml bottle without doubling the sugar. Flavours: Grapefruit, Orange, Berry, Mango Passion and Lemon, or the Mixed Pack of 50. HASTA certified. Not suitable for children under 15 or pregnant women except under medical supervision.

Fuelling in Australian heat

On a hot Queensland trail race or a long summer ride, you lose sodium fast. Pair gels for carbohydrate with electrolytes for sodium rather than relying on one product. Compare other brands in Electrolytes and Nutrition.

Why buy from Oz Backcountry

Free shipping Australia-wide over $150 (T&Cs apply), sent from our Helensvale warehouse on the Gold Coast. A box of 24 gels is about $55 to $63, so two or three boxes for a race season gets you there.
