Ultra Heat Boost Mittens Mens

Therm-ic Ultra Heat Boost Mittens Mens are heated ski mittens with three heat levels, PrimaLoft insulation, a leather palm and a 10K/10K waterproof, breathable membrane. The heating elements wrap around the fingers and across the back of the hand, and because a mitten keeps your fingers together, they share that warmth side by side.

Who it's for

Skiers and snowboarders whose fingers go numb on the chairlift, and anyone who feels the cold in their hands long before the rest of them. Think of a blowing July morning at Perisher, or the last runs at Mt Buller as the sun drops behind the ridge: press the button on the back of the hand, choose a heat level and the warmth comes through. They suit instructors and parents standing around in the snow all day too.

Heat and batteries

Three heat modes give an even, gentle warmth, and you step up or down with the button on the back of the hand. Boost Heat Technology is about speed: the mittens warm up faster, reach a higher heat intensity, and the batteries recharge faster. The rechargeable lithium-ion batteries sit in a waterproof zipped pocket on the cuff.

Waterproofing and breathability

A 10K/10K membrane keeps snow and wet out while letting moisture from your hands escape, so the insulation stays dry from both sides. A drawstring at the cuff closes out spindrift and keeps the heat in.

Fit and layering

The thin sleeve sits neatly with your jacket cuff, a safety cord keeps each mitten on your wrist when you take it off on the lift, and the soft thumb strap is there to wipe your goggles clear. Size 9 (L) suits a hand 19–19.5 cm long from wrist crease to fingertip, with a middle finger of 8.5–9 cm.

Fabric and construction

The palm is 100% leather, for grip on poles and a hard-wearing surface where it matters. The outer fabric is 73% recycled polyester, 7% elastane and 20% PU, with a lining of 72% polyester and 28% recycled polyester. Insulation is PrimaLoft I-1019, made with 90% recycled polyester, so the mittens are warm before you even switch them on.

Looking after it

Never machine wash the mittens, and never dry them in a tumble dryer or on a radiator; keep drying temperatures to 40 °C or below. At the end of the season, charge the batteries to about half, disconnect them from the mittens and the charger, and store them somewhere cool, between 5 °C and 20 °C. That keeps them healthy for next winter.
