Description
Gear Aid Taut Line Kit is a camp clothesline in a packet: 15.2 m of black reflective 550 paracord and four aluminium line tensioners that hold the line tight between two trees. Wet towels, socks and a dripping rain shell hang high and dry instead of sagging into the dirt, any leftover cord is on hand to repair a snapped guy line, and the whole kit rolls small enough to live in the bottom of your pack for every trip, from a long weekend at a hinterland campground to a week of hut walking in Tasmania.
What's in the kit
- 15.2 m of 550 paracord in 100% nylon, about 74 g
- A reflective tracer woven through the black sheath, so the line shows up in a head torch beam after dark
- Four aluminium line tensioners with numbered slots
- Seven inner strands that pull out of the cord for use as thread or fishing line
How to set it up
Tie a figure-8 knot in the cord, feed it through the tensioner's numbered slots in order and pull out the slack. Repeat at the far end and the line holds its tension with a load of washing on it. No hitches to remember and no fiddling with cold fingers at dusk.
With four tensioners in the packet, you have enough to tighten both ends of a clothesline and still put tension on a tarp ridgeline or a couple of guy lines.
Around camp
- Drying line for towels, swimmers and wet layers after a creek crossing
- Hanging a lantern or head torch over the camp kitchen
- Lifting a food bag or water filter off the ground
- Spare cord for a snapped guy line or a quick repair
The paracord in the Taut Line Kit is camp cord and is not for climbing.
