Description

Gear Aid Revivex Wash-In Water Repellent is a garment treatment for the rain jacket that has stopped beading. When rain starts soaking into the outer fabric instead of rolling off, the shell feels cold and clammy even though the membrane underneath is fine. A wash with Revivex Wash-In puts a fresh durable water repellent (DWR) finish back on, so the face fabric sheds water again before the next wet day in the Blue Mountains or a sleety run up at Thredbo. The formula is PFAS-free and goes on in the washing machine or a tub, several garments at a time.

What it fixes

  • Rain jackets and overpants where water spreads into the fabric instead of beading
  • Softshells that have lost their water resistance
  • Ski jackets and pants, and outer gloves
  • Waterproof-breathable fabrics including GORE-TEX, eVent and NeoShell, plus plain nylon and polyester

The treatment does not affect breathability, so a waterproof-breathable shell keeps moving sweat out while it sheds rain.

How to use it

Wash first. Dirt, smoke and body oils stop a jacket repelling water, so clean it with Gear Aid Revivex Pro Cleaner before treating; often the clean alone brings some beading back.

In a front-loading machine

  1. Run a delicate, cold cycle with Revivex Pro Cleaner as the detergent.
  2. Add about 30 ml of Wash-In per garment to the fabric softener compartment. Stay under the maximum fill line and skip any extra rinse.
  3. Tumble dry on low to medium heat for the best result.

In a tub or sink

  1. Fill a container with about 4 L of warm water, enough to cover the clean garment, and add about 30 ml of Wash-In.
  2. Push the garment under, knead it so every part is soaked, and leave it for 10 minutes.
  3. Wring it out gently and tumble dry on low to medium heat.

When to treat it again

Reapply when water stops beading on the outside of the jacket. Depending on how hard the gear works and how often it is washed, that can be every few months.
