Description

The Restrap Bikepacking Frame Bag is a half frame bag that straps under your top tube and leaves room below for bottles. It comes in Small (2.5 L), Medium (3.5 L) and Large (4.5 L), is rated IP6K4 with YKK AquaGuard zips, and is hand made in Restrap's Yorkshire workshop from textured nylon.

Who it's for

Riders who want the heavy, often-needed gear in the middle of the bike: tools, pump, battery pack, food for the day. It earns its place on a bikepacking trip down the Munda Biddi, on a long audax and on the weekday commute, because it goes on and off with straps alone and moves from bike to bike.

Fitting it to your bike

Measure the underside of your top tube from the head tube back, then choose the size whose top edge fits inside it. Each bag is tallest at the head tube end and tapers towards the seat tube.

  • Small - 300 mm along the top tube, 140 mm tall at its deepest, tapering to 55 mm at the rear. Two top tube straps and two down tube straps.
  • Medium - 400 mm along the top tube, 140 mm tall at its deepest, tapering to 75 mm at the rear. Adds a seat tube strap.
  • Large - 500 mm along the top tube, 150 mm tall at its deepest, tapering to 80 mm at the rear. Three top tube straps, two down tube straps and a seat tube strap.

All three sizes are 60 mm wide, so your knees pass the bag as you pedal. Rubberised straps grip the frame and keep the bag from creeping. We recommend protective tape where the straps sit, to keep grit from marking the paint.

Capacity and what fits

  • Small, 2.5 L - pump, spare tubes, multi-tool and snacks
  • Medium, 3.5 L - the same, plus a rain jacket or a battery pack
  • Large, 4.5 L - tools, a day's food and a compact stove

Mesh pockets inside keep small items from sinking to the bottom, and the Medium and Large add a document pocket for a phone, cards or a brevet card. A cable port lets you run a dynamo or battery lead out to your lights or GPS with the zip closed.

Weatherproofing

The Frame Bag is rated IP6K4: sealed against dust and protected against water splashing from any direction. YKK AquaGuard zips and the textured nylon outer turn away rain and wheel spray. For a phone or a down jacket on a day of heavy rain, we'd slip it into a small dry bag inside.
