Description
The USWE Outlander is a slim hydration pack for off-road riders, strapped on with the elastic No Dancing Monkey harness so it stays put when the trail gets rough. We carry it in two sizes: the 3 L in Carbon Black for short, fast rides, and the 9 L in Factory Orange or Crazy Yellow for full days out.
Who it's for
Enduro, hard enduro and dual sport riders who want water and a little kit on their back without a pack that flops around. The 3 L suits a race or a couple of hours on the trail with the essentials. The 9 L is the one for a big day in the Victorian high country or a loop through Queensland forest tracks, with room for an extra layer, gloves, tools, food and a first aid kit.
Capacity and fit
The Outlander 9 L holds 9 litres in total, including a 3.0 litre Elite bladder made by HydraPak. It weighs 500 g before you add water and measures 45 x 19 x 14 cm. Inside you get several compartments, with mesh pockets and tool sections so the multi-tool and tyre levers are not rattling round with your lunch.
Both sizes use the No Dancing Monkey four-point harness. Elastic straps pull the pack tight against your torso, then stretch as you breathe hard, so there is no bounce through whoops and no squeeze on your chest on a long climb. The harness sits high on your back, clear of the seat, and fits over body armour and chest protectors. On the 9 L it suits chests from 84 to 110 cm.
USWE's NDM add-ons, such as the Action Camera Harness, Chest Pocket and Phone Pocket, work with the harness if you want to build the pack out.
Drinking and refilling
The Elite bladder is made by HydraPak and joins its drink tube with a fixed coupling. On the 9 L, three litres on board means you can ride a long way between refills.
Cleaning and mould
Rinse the Elite bladder with warm water after every ride, then hang it to dry with the opening open. Letting it dry right out is what keeps it fresh from one ride to the next.
