Description
Gear Aid Holdfast Straps are the bungee straps for lashing a tent to a rear rack, a jacket under a seat pack or a bundle of poles together at the trailhead. Instead of round cord they use flat elastic webbing, which gives a firmer, more secure hold than a standard bungee, and each end carries a steel hook moulded into a hard shell. A reflective tick runs through the red webbing, so a strapped load shows up in headlights.

Who it's for
Bikepackers and touring riders are the obvious fit: a Holdfast pulls a tent, a sleeping mat or a stuff sack down onto a rack or a bag, and the reflective tick adds a little extra visibility at dusk on a gravel road through the Northern Rivers. They are just as handy around camp for bundling tent poles, a tarp or firewood, and at home for keeping gear tidy in the shed. Gear Aid mark them not for use on roof racks, so use a proper tie-down for anything on a vehicle roof.

To pick a length, measure around the load where the strap will sit. The strap should be stretched but not at its limit when hooked on, so choose a length whose maximum stretch is comfortably longer than the distance around the load. If you strap different loads on different trips, the Multi pack gives you one of each to try.
Looking after it
Rinse off mud and salt with fresh water and let the straps dry out of the sun. Stored away from heat and direct sunlight, the elastic keeps its stretch for longer.
