Description
The Sea to Summit Frontier UL Collapsible Bowl is lightweight camp tableware that folds flat: food-grade silicone walls on a rigid glass-reinforced nylon base and rim. Pop it up for dinner, press it down to 1.7 cm and slide it down the back of your pack.
Who it's for
Walkers, paddlers and bike tourers who want to eat from a real bowl without giving it real space. A full-sized bowl for porridge at Cradle Mountain or a curry on the Cooloola Great Walk, and afterwards it takes up about as much room as a paperback cover.
- Medium: holds 680 ml, weighs 62 g, 15.1 cm across and 5.1 cm deep when open. The size for one serve of dinner or breakfast.
- Large: holds 887 ml, weighs 82 g, 17.8 cm across and 4.5 cm deep when open. The size for big appetites, shared salads and noodle soups.
Materials and heat
The base and rim are glass-reinforced nylon 66, and the folding wall is silicone rubber. Both are food grade to the European standard and BPA-free. The stiff rim is what makes this bowl easy to live with: you hold it by the rim, so a serve of hot soup stays level in your hand and the wall cannot fold on you.
Sea to Summit test these bowls on a rig that opens and collapses each one 5,000 times, so folding it after every meal is exactly what it is built for.
Serve hot food straight from the pot. Keep the bowl out of the microwave and off the stove.
Packing and nesting
Collapsed, the Medium is 15.1 x 15.1 x 1.7 cm and the Large is 17.8 x 17.8 x 1.7 cm. Stack two or three and they are still thinner than one ordinary bowl. The Medium nests inside the Sea to Summit Frontier 2 L collapsible pot, so pot and bowls travel as a single flat disc.
Cleaning
The inside curve where the wall meets the base is shaped to match Sea to Summit spoons and sporks, so you scrape out the last of the meal and leave very little to wash. On the track, a wipe and a rinse does it. At home, the Frontier UL Collapsible Bowl goes in the dishwasher.
