Description

The Nemo Flyer Cloud Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad is a hybrid foam-and-air pad with a soft stretch-knit top, for walkers and campers who put a deep, quiet night's sleep first. The Flyer Cloud inflates itself, fine-tunes through a flush Laylow valve, and comes with a pump sack that doubles as a dry bag. It comes in Regular Wide and Long Wide.

Who it's for

The Flyer Cloud is for the walker who would rather carry a little more and actually sleep. Think a three-night loop through the Victorian high country, a base camp at Mount Buffalo where you head out each day, or a few nights on the Great South West Walk. It is a pad you look forward to unrolling at the end of a long day.

Both of our sizes are the wide cut, which side sleepers and restless sleepers love: your elbows stay on the pad when you roll over. The Long Wide adds length for taller sleepers.

What R-value means for you

R-value measures how well a pad stops the cold ground drawing heat out of your body. Higher is warmer, and what you lie on matters as much as your sleeping bag. The Flyer Cloud's warmth comes from its foam core: Nemo cuts channels through the foam to save weight, yet keeps the insulation, so a foam layer sits between you and the ground all night.

That foam layer makes it worth a look for trips beyond summer: crisp autumn nights in the Grampians, a frosty spring morning in Kosciuszko National Park, or a cool night on the Tasmanian east coast.

Comfort and noise

This is the Flyer Cloud's party trick. The stretch-knit top gently conforms to your body as you shift overnight, and the foam forms contoured ridges that adapt to your body. An air baffle runs around the edge for structure and stability, with extra foam bridges between the baffles for added comfort. Nemo describes the stretch-knit and foam together as smooth, quiet and plush, which your tent-mate will appreciate.

Inflation and packing

Unroll it, open the valve and the foam draws air in by itself while you pitch the tent. For a quicker setup or a firmer feel, connect the Vortex stuff sack to the Laylow valve and use it as a pump sack. The same roll-top sack works as a dry bag for clothes or your sleeping bag. The Laylow valve sits flush with the pad and is micro-adjustable, so you can fine-tune the firmness until it feels right.

Weight

The Flyer Cloud is a comfort pad first. It suits overnight walks and multi-day trips where a great sleep matters more than shaving every last gram, and it is right at home at a base camp. The Regular Wide is the lighter and more compact of our two sizes; pick the Long Wide if you are tall enough to hang off the end.

Durability and repair

The open-cell foam core gives you a second level of security on the trail if the pad is punctured. Repair patches are included for a quick fix at camp. On the Regular Wide and Long Wide, built-in toggles and loops let you join two pads side by side for couples.

Looking after it

At home, store the Flyer Cloud unrolled with the valve open, under a bed or behind a door. Foam kept tightly rolled for months is slower to spring back. Wipe the top with a damp cloth and let it dry before it goes away.
