CamelBak Crux Reservoir On/Off Valve is a small lever valve that clicks in between the drinking tube of a CamelBak Crux reservoir and its Big Bite mouthpiece. Flip the lever and nothing gets past it, which is what you want when a full bladder is squashed into a gear bag, a suitcase or the bottom of a pack. Flip it back and you are drinking again. The housing is bent at 45 degrees, so the bite valve sits angled toward your mouth from the shoulder strap, and the whole thing weighs 5 g.

Who it's for

Riders, runners and walkers using a CamelBak Crux reservoir who have had a bite valve squeezed open by a pack strap or a heavy load and found a puddle where their water should be. It suits travel days, shuttle runs up to the top of the trail and any time the pack is out of your sight. It is built for the Crux system only: the older style Antidote and OMEGA reservoirs use a different fitting and will not take it.

Fitting it

Pull the Big Bite valve off the end of your Crux tube, push the barbed end of the on/off valve into the tube, then press the bite valve onto the other end. If the tube is stiff, a few minutes in warm water softens it and makes the fit easier.

Looking after it

Leave the lever open when you rinse and dry your bladder so water drains right through the tube, and take the valve off now and then to rinse the joint. Store the system dry between trips.
