Description

The RS1 Top is a long-sleeved women's open water wetsuit top in Yamamoto neoprene, made to be worn with the RS1 Bottom as a zip-free, two-piece swimming suit.

Who it's for

Open water swimmers who want a wetsuit that goes on like a top and a pair of pants. There is no zip to reach for: you pull the RS1 Top over your head, and it fastens to the matching Orca Openwater RS1 Bottom with a Velcro seal at the hips. Because the halves are separate, you can wear a different size top and bottom, which is a real advantage if your upper and lower body sit in different sizes on a one-piece chart.

Buoyancy and flexibility

  • Torso: 3 mm Yamamoto 39 with an Infinityskin lining, for warmth and extra lift through the upper body.
  • Shoulders: Yamamoto 40 with an Infinityskin lining, which stretches up to 130% as you reach through the stroke.
  • Hip join: the Velcro seal holds the two halves together and stops water flushing in where they meet.
  • Finish: an SCS coating on the outside to help the suit glide, plus Orca's Ultimate Seal Collar at the neck.

Orca's panel diagram shows the 3 mm panel across the front of the torso, with 2 mm neoprene through the rest of the top.

Getting the size right

This listing is the XL. On Orca's women's open water chart, XL suits a chest of 99–104 cm, a height of 177–189 cm and a weight of 73–79 kg. Fit the top to your chest and torso, then choose the bottom on its own chart.

Looking after neoprene

Rinse the top in plenty of fresh water after every swim, with a little pH-neutral soap if you like, then rinse again. Dry it outside or somewhere airy, out of direct sun. Store it hanging from the middle, or on a hanger wide enough that the shoulders and neck are not stretched.

FAQ's

How does the Orca Openwater RS1 two-piece wetsuit stay together?
The Orca Openwater RS1 Top and Bottom fasten together at the hips with a Velcro seal. The seal holds the two halves tightly and stops water flushing into the suit where they meet.

Can I wear a different size top and bottom in the Orca RS1?
Yes. Because the Orca Openwater RS1 comes as a separate top and bottom, you can combine two different sizes, which helps if your upper and lower body fall in different sizes on a one-piece chart.

Does the Orca Openwater RS1 Top have a zip?
No. The Orca Openwater RS1 Top has no zip at all. You pull it on over your head, which makes the suit easier to get into than a one-piece with a back zip.

What size is the XL Orca Openwater RS1 Top?
The XL Orca Openwater RS1 Top suits a chest of 99 to 104 cm, a height of 177 to 189 cm and a body weight of 73 to 79 kg, on Orca's women's open water chart.

Does the Orca Openwater RS1 Top help you float?
Yes. Orca says the RS1 gives extra buoyancy in the upper body. The torso is 3 mm Yamamoto 39 for thermal insulation, and the Yamamoto 40 shoulders stay stretchy.

Do I need the RS1 Bottom to swim in the Orca RS1 Top?
The Orca Openwater RS1 Top is one half of a two-piece wetsuit and is designed to fasten to the Orca Openwater RS1 Bottom, which makes up the full suit.
