Description

The CamelBak Crux Reservoir is the hydration bladder that goes inside your pack so you can drink on the move: a reusable reservoir with a drinking tube, a Big Bite valve and a wide leak-proof cap. It comes in 1.5 L, 2 L and 3 L.

Who it's for

Walkers, mountain bikers and trail runners who drink more when they do not have to stop for it. On a hot climb out of the Numinbah Valley or a long day on the Bibbulmun, the water you can sip without taking your pack off is the water you actually drink.

It is also the replacement reservoir for a pack whose bladder has had its day. Pick the size your pack's sleeve was built for.

Capacity and fit

Three sizes: 1.5 L, 2 L and 3 L.

The 1.5 L reservoir measures 29 cm long by 24.4 cm wide and 4.4 cm deep. It is the short one for running vests, kids' packs and short rides.

The 2 L reservoir measures 38 cm long by 19 cm wide and weighs 210 g empty. The 3 L reservoir measures 46 cm by 23 cm and weighs 235 g empty. Both lie about 6 cm deep.

Choose by how long you are out and what your pack holds. The 2 L suits most day walks and rides. Take the 3 L for full days in the heat or anywhere water is a long way apart, and remember that a full 3 L reservoir is 3 kg of water on your back before anything else goes in.

Drinking and refilling

The Crux delivers 20% more water per sip, so a quick pull on the tube is a real drink. The Big Bite valve opens when you bite and seals itself when you let go, which stops the slow drip down your shirt.

An on/off lever at the valve shuts the tube with one hand. Flick it closed before the pack goes in the tent and nothing leaks if the valve gets squashed.

Refilling is a one-person job: hold the reservoir by its handle under the tap or the tank, and the wide cap opens and closes easily and seals leak-proof when you close it.

Cleaning and mould

Empty the reservoir after every trip, rinse it, and hang it open to dry. The tube and the valve are where water sits longest, so blow the tube clear before you hang it. If you carry sports drink, wash with warm soapy water the same day. A reservoir that is put away wet and sealed is the one that grows things.

Does the CamelBak Crux Reservoir leak?
The CamelBak Crux Reservoir has a leak-proof cap, a Big Bite valve that seals itself after each drink, and an on/off lever that shuts the drinking tube with one hand. Close the lever before you pack it away.

How do you fill a CamelBak Crux Reservoir?
Hold the CamelBak Crux Reservoir by its ergonomic handle, open the cap and fill it under a tap. The cap on the Crux is designed to be easier to open and close, and it seals leak-proof once shut.
