The Sea to Summit Airlite Towel is an ultralight microfibre towel made from 85% recycled polyester and 15% nylon, and it is the lightest, smallest-packing and fastest-drying towel Sea to Summit makes. It disappears into a hip belt pocket and soaks up more than three times its own weight in water.

Who it's for

Walkers, runners and travellers who count grams and still want to get dry. It is the towel for the Overland Track or a Lamington overnight, where every item has to justify its place, and the one that lives in the running vest for a creek dip halfway round. The Airlite weighs half what the Sea to Summit Pocket Towel does.

It earns its keep in other ways too. The long shape ties around your neck as sun protection or a sweat rag, and it makes a fine camp dishcloth.

Size and absorbency

  • Small, 80 x 40 cm, 30 g: face, hands and sweat. The runner's and day walker's size.
  • Medium, 100 x 50 cm, 47 g: dries you off after a swim.
  • Large, 120 x 60 cm, 67 g: a full body towel for multi-day trips.

The fabric is thin and silky, not plush. Press it against your skin and it pulls the water off; wring it out and go again. If you want a towel that feels like the one at home, we'd hand you the Tek Towel instead.

Drying time and packed size

Fine yarns and a featherweight knit give the Airlite a lot of surface for very little fabric, so it dries faster than any other towel in the Sea to Summit range. Clip it to the outside of your pack and it is usually dry by the next rest stop.

Stuffed in its 15D nylon sack, the Small packs to 4.5 x 4.5 x 4 cm (34 g), the Medium to 5 x 5 x 5 cm (50 g) and the Large to 5.5 x 5.5 x 6 cm (72 g). The stuff sack stays snapped to the towel, so it cannot get lost, and its webbing loop is how you hang the towel to dry.

Odour and washing

Machine washable. There is no chemical treatment on the fabric, and a towel that dries this quickly does not need one: get it fully dry before it goes back in the sack and it stays fresh.
