9.8 Crag Classic

The Mammut 9.8 Crag Classic Rope is a 9.8 mm untreated single rope for climbers who do a bit of everything: gym sessions through the week, sport and trad on the weekend. It is Mammut's Crag take on its Eternity rope, in Orange-White or Ice Mint-White, and we stock it in 60, 70 and 80 m.

Who it's for

All-round climbers, and anyone after a hard-working first rope. Mammut scores it six out of six for sport climbing and designs it for traditional routes too, and as a Classic rope it is made for the gym and for rock on fair-weather days. Top-rope sessions at Kangaroo Point, bolted lines at Nowra and a first trad lead at Arapiles all sit comfortably in its range.

Diameter and what it suits

At 9.8 mm the Crag Classic is certified as a single rope: one strand for lead and top-rope. We rate 9.8 mm as a sensible diameter for a rope that will rack up plenty of gym laps and crag days.

Impact force is the peak force recorded in the standard UIAA drop test; a lower figure means a softer catch. Static elongation is the stretch under a steady body-weight load, the give you feel when you are lowered off.

Dry treatment

The 9.8 Crag Classic is untreated and PFC-free, as every Mammut Classic rope is: a straightforward rope for the gym and for rock climbing in good weather.

Fall rating

The 9.8 Crag Classic Rope holds 8 UIAA falls with an 80 kg mass as a single rope, and conforms to EN 892:2012 + A3:2023.

Length and weight

Every length weighs 61 g per metre, and an abrasion-resistant centre mark shows you the middle. Choose 60, 70 or 80 m in either colourway.
