deuter-ac-lite-23
AC Lite 23

The Deuter AC Lite 23 is a light, ventilated daypack for walkers who sweat on the uphill. A tensioned mesh back keeps the pack body off you, so a humid climb out of the Border Ranges finishes with a damp shirt rather than a soaked one.

Who it's for

Day hikers who move at a good clip and want airflow without the weight of a heavier framed pack. Deuter rate it five out of five for hiking, and the recommended 3-6 kg load is a proper day out: Mount Barney's lower trails, the Grampians' Pinnacle walk, or a summer loop through the Blue Mountains. If you hike in Queensland heat, this is the kind of back we steer people towards.

Capacity, and what actually fits

23 litres holds a 2 L bladder in its own sleeve, a rain shell and a warm layer, lunch, a first aid kit and a head torch, with the mesh side pockets taking bottles or sunscreen. The pack measures 52 x 32 x 25 cm. Gear loops on the outside take a jacket you have stripped off halfway up.

How it carries

The Aircomfort back stretches a mesh panel over a round-profile frame of elastic spring steel, which arcs the pack away from your spine and leaves a channel for air. The same frame spreads the load, so 5 kg of water and kit sits steady rather than sagging. Padded hip fins take weight onto your hips, and the sternum strap adjusts two ways to sit where it suits your chest.

Fitting it

The AC Lite 23 comes in one size for back lengths of 44-54 cm, which Deuter match to walkers around 170-195 cm tall. Inside that range, put a few kilos in, settle the hip fins on your hip bones, then snug the shoulder straps.

Access and organisation

The main compartment opens with a central zip that runs the full length of the front, so you can reach the first aid kit at the bottom without unloading lunch. A zipper garage tucks the pullers away so the pack does not open itself in a crowd. A zipped top pocket holds keys on their clip, a side smartphone pocket keeps your phone handy for photos, and a glasses stow loop sits on the shoulder strap.

Full-length front zip with zipper garage

Zipped top pocket with key clip

Side smartphone pocket and two mesh side pockets

Hydration sleeve, up to 2 L

Pole attachment, attachment loops and glasses stow

Removable rain cover

Weight

890 g for 23 litres and a full suspended mesh back.
