Fourteen litres, a full harness and a rain cover, ready for a morning on the trail.

Who it's for

Women who walk shorter days and want the cool back of a bigger Deuter without the bulk. Deuter rate it five out of five for hiking, and the 2-5 kg recommended load is a half day out: a Burleigh Head loop before work, the Twin Falls circuit at Springbrook, or a summer walk up to Mount Cordeaux in the Main Range. If you are a smaller-framed walker of any gender, the SL back length may simply fit you better too.

Capacity, and what actually fits

14 litres takes a 2 L hydration bladder in its own sleeve, a rain jacket, snacks, sunscreen and a small first aid kit. The lid has a pocket outside for sunglasses and snacks and a zipped pocket inside for keys on their clip. Mesh side pockets hold a bottle, and a dedicated side pocket keeps your phone where you can reach it. The pack measures 54 x 28 x 19 cm.

How it carries

A round profile frame of springy steel tensions the back mesh so it arcs away from your spine, leaving a gap for air to flow through. That frame also spreads the weight evenly, so even a light load sits steady rather than pulling at your shoulders. Breathable hip fins wrap your hips, and a sternum strap adjusts two ways for height.

Fitting it

SL is Deuter's women's fit: a shorter back and a harness shaped for women's shoulders and hips. The AC Lite 14 SL suits back lengths of 38-48 cm, which Deuter match to walkers around 158-178 cm tall. If you land inside 38-48 cm, this is your pack; if you are longer, the standard AC Lite range is built for you.

Access and organisation

The main compartment loads from the top under a drawcord and lid.
